Long time resident of Second Life, Cathereine Night, releases “Your Virtual World Business Guide”. A Full day of events at dAlliez Winter Wonderland Sim will kick off the book launch.

 

SECOND LIFE – SUNDAY NOVEMBER 23rd

 

All Second Life residents are invited to join in and celebrate the official launch of the book. The launch party area is a holiday paradise, with snow covered mountains and frozen ponds, a ski lift takes you up the mountain where you can either ski or snow board down. In addition there is a holiday train ride that takes you past small cheerful buildings heavy with snow and decorated with twinkling lights. It is a place where it alone is well worth the trip to see.

BOOK LAUNCH: WINTER WONDERLAND

 

Cathereine Night personally invites you to the launching of her new book “Your Virtual World Business Guide eBook”! Ms. Night is hosting a full day of fun at the amazing Winter Wonderland Holiday sim. Grab your friends and come see all the fun activities planned in celebration of Ms. Night’s fabulous new book. How to make clothing for your avatar in Second Life – With Video!

So you would like to make clothing in Second Life? Fashion is one of the hottest topics in Second Life. There are many blogs, web sites, and news media dedicated to specific designers. Everyone has their own creative style and personality they want to present to the world, and fashion is an ever evolving market. Many real world designers are coming to Second Life. This tutorial will explain to you how to make clothing for your avatar.

Step 1

Let’s get started by making your very first basic shirt to wear. First you need to download a template. You can find the templates on Second Life’s official website. You can also find many other templates created by other residents of SL on the web.

 

Step2

You have a few options when it comes to how you would like to begin creating your shirt. Photo Sourcing is a method where you can use a photograph of a piece of clothing, or a texture, to create your shirt. Another option you have is drawing your shirt by hand using the paint tools available with the program. When using a Photo sourcing method, be sure that the image you use is not copyright, or that you have permission to use that image. Be wary of “free” image sites since some sources do have stolen textures.

 

Step3

Open your Adobe photo shop program and select file and then open. Locate the folder with the upper body template and open it.

 

Step4

Go to the left side of your screen to where the 2 color boxes are located. Select the foreground color box and select the color black.

 

Step5

Now go up to the brush tool and locate the drop down at the top left of the screen. Choose the round 9px brush and enlarge it to 50px to make it easier to draw.

 

Step6

Go to the top of the screen and select layer and then new layer. Take your brush tool and fill in the template with black.

 

Step7

Now we will begin to make a simple collar. On the left side of your screen select the eraser tool from the menu. Choose the 9px brush tip. Locate the lines on the template that show the neckline and trace along the line to form the collar shape.

 

Step8

Here is how to add an image to the shirt. Go back to the left side of your screen to where the 2 color boxes are located. Select the foreground color box and select the color red.

 

Step9

Select the custom shape tool. At the top of the screen locate the custom shape drop down menu. Select the paw shape or any other shape you like. Center the mouse cursor where you want the image. Hold down the left mouse button and drag your mouse to the size of the image you want to add to your shirt.

 

Step10

Locate the layer menu on the lower right hand corner of your program. Locate Background and click on the eye icon to hide that layer. Locate Overlay and chick on the eye icon to his that layer.

 

Step11

To Save your work, go to file and then save as. Save as a Targa TGA file. This Targa file texture is now ready to be uploaded to Second Life and made into a shirt.

 

Tips

Make a back up save of the psd format to edit later.

Make sure you save the Targa as 32 bit.

I have been in Second Life since 2005, and it has completely changed how I think about making money online. Second Life opens up a world of exciting possibilities for the home based entrepreneur.

Mega party will be photographed for images to be included in a soon-to-be
published book about running a business in SL

Everyone wants a chance to be a star and that opportunity is being offered on
October 16th 2008. A new book by long time resident Cathereine Night, based on
running a profitable business in Second Life is entering the final stages of
completion.

Cat is asking everyone to take an active part by showing the world the great
community Second Life has.

“Second Life is often misunderstood and discarded as just another ‘game’.” says
Cathereine Night author of the soon to be released book. “What they do not
realise is that people are making serious money here. When I showed my family
my paypal reciepts for a month their eyes got wide as full moons.”

The party will feature a live DJ and is formal in theme. It will be held at 6:00pm
SLT/PDT on October 16th, 2008 at AlleyCat Studios. AlleyCat Studios is owned by
Cathereine Night and her parter Delena Paine, and was established in spring of 2005.
